In 2008, Sculpture in Central Otago founders Norma Dutton and Peter Gregg approached us with a view to collaborating with Rippon on an annual sculpture exhibition to be held at the vineyard. The Mills family is proud and excited to share their land with top New Zealand sculptors and their creations.
Sustainability and environmental concerns inform the work of many of the leading New Zealand sculptors that were invited to exhibit at Sculpture in Central Otago 2009. Those sculptors included Graham Bennett, Bing Dawe, Leon van den Eijkel, Mark Hill, Hannah Kidd, Phil Newbury, Peter Nicholls, Phil Price, Dan Rutherford, Rebecca Rose and Llew Summers. Celebrated New Zealand painter Don Binney attended the gala opening as a guest speaker.
While celebrating the landscape and the talent and diversity of sculptors, the event also contributes to the local community, making a financial donation each year to community projects.
The next Sculpture in Central Otago exhibition to be held at Rippon will take place from the 5th Feb 2011 till the 1st May 2011. Confirmed exhibitors include Gary Baynes, Russell Beck, Graham Bennett, Julie Butler, Bing Dawe, Paul Dibble, Jane Downes, Ben Foster, Aaron Frater, Mark Hill, Martin Hill, Philip Jarvis, Duncan Leask, Cheryl Lucas, Ernie Maluschnig, Doug Neil, Rose Patterson, Dan Rutherford, Anna Scott, Jenny Smith, Johnny Turner, Richard Wedekind, Mark Whyte, Shane Woolridge, James Wright and Bruce Young
